The stands at Downers Grove North Friday night overflowed as the school showed off its new turf football field and made the mud games played there a memory. Inviting Morton to the celebration, the Trojans running attack got started early with the help of a stout defensive performance that forced 3 turnovers on the night and left the Trojans with good field position in their 49-0 waxing of the Mustangs. Key in the game was the play of the Trojan offensive line that simply overpowered Morton as the North attack pounded the young Mustangs into submission by the end of the first half. The Trojans saw 5 different players reach the end zone and it wasn’t all on the ground. Senior quarterback Riley McGinnis used his arm to deliver a 25-yard strike to junior receiver Stephen Kanis who ran through would be tacklers not to be denied his end zone celebration in the route. North improved their record to 1-1 on the season and will face Oak Park next week in their conference opener.
