Weather conditions for Saturday evenings IHSA class 8A state final game between No. 2 Bolingbrook and No. 4 Loyola were horrible for both teams fighting each other and the elements for all the marbles. In the end it was Bolingbrook that upset Loyola 21-17 for the schools first ever football championship but it didn't come easy. All-State Junior quarterback Aaron Bailey threw two picks in the game and fumbled twice in the win setting Loyola up with the games first score when Rambler running back Reed Michalek scored from 25 yards out capping a five play 55-yard drive going up 7-0 with 3:15 left in the first. The Raiders answered when Bailey used a quarterback draw from 10 yards out diving into the end zone and knotting the game 7-7 at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter. Following a Rambler punt team error and giving Bolingbrook the ball inside the their own 5-yard line, Raiders fullback Jaden Huff powered in for a 1-yard score and a lead but less than 2 minutes later All-State Rambler Malcom Weaver quarterback tied it up 14 all on this 4-yard run just before the half.

In the second half the cold set in to compliment the rain and neither offense could do much with the ball. The Raider defense overpowered Loyola for much of the game coming up with huge stops and back breaking turnovers that stopped several Rambler drives. Bolingbrook's defense allowed only a 40-yard field goal with 1:48 left in the third from Will Cushwa in the second half and shut Loyola down. Still trailing 17-14 with 5:01 left to play, Bailey did what he has done all season and found a way to score from 33-yards out giving Bolingbrook the game winner 21-17. The defense once again came to the rescue for the Brook down the stretch stopping Loyola on two drives and sealing the championship when defensive back Diaron Rhodes picked Weaver at the Bolingbrook 38. As bailey took the snap and a final knee for the win, the Bolingbrook sideline went wild in the celebration.
