ABOUT THE AUTHOR

In 8A semifinal action Saturday afternoon, #2 Bolingbrook took their show on the road to #9 Naperville Central with weather condition more suited for kite flying than football. The Brook fell behind with 1:14 left in the opening quarter 7-0 after Central's Ian Lewandowski scored from 9 yards out but the Raiders responded late in the second quarter when running back Jaden Huff capped an 11-play drive with a tough 1-yard dive knotting the game at 7 with 4:42 left in the opening half.

In the third quarter, Raider quarterback Aaron Bailey hooked up with Chandler Piekarski on 3rd and 9 for a 15-yard scoring pass taking the lead 14-7 with 7:40 left in the third quarter then the momentum seemed to shift. Central scored on their next possession when Lewandowski hit tailback Matt Randolph on a 42-yard strike over the middle but missed the extra point making it 14-13. Lewandowski scored again on a 13-yard quarterback draw with 9:58 to play but the Redhawk's failed a two-point conversion attempt and held a 19-14 lead.

The Raiders needed a score and turned to their All-State quarterback Bailey who once again showed his running abilities and broke off down the sideline out racing Redhawk defenders 60 yards diving for the game winner. With the 22-19 win, the Raiders will play in their first state championship game since 1993 against top seeded Loyola Academy in Champagne next Saturday night...game time 7pm.
