Tigers Sneak Up On Spartans

In the opening 5 minutes of Friday nights SPC contest between Romeoville and Plainfield North, the Spartans opened on a 7-0 run but Tiger coach Nick DiForti started his bench to send the message of team to his squad. That lesson was taught well as the bench came off the floor to an ovation and the starters came onto the floor and sparked a 24-7 run ending the half with a 24-18 lead. In the third the Tigers poured it on outscoring Romeoville 20-3 all but ending any hope of a Romeoville comeback. With six minutes left in the game, junior guard Kurt Palandech streaked down the floor in transition after a Spartan miss and dunked for a 17 point 48-31 lead. North got production from an array of players, Jeremy Bert led the game with 21 points and 4 boards, Marcus Fair with 8 points and Matt Fenza chipped in 9. Romeoville's Nate Washington scored a team high 10 and new transfer Uchenna Akuba scored 9 points grabbed 7 boards and 2 blocked shots in his debut for the Spartans.
Romeoville struggled from the floor hitting less than 30% of their shots and just better than 50% from the charity stripe. The Tigers who lost their first four games at the Joliet West Thanksgiving Tournament improved their record to 2-4 on the season winners of two straight while the Spartans dropped to 1-5 on the season and look to find their shot to climb back into the mix.
