Plainfield Central and Argo faced off for a tournament opener Monday morning at the first annual Romeoville Christmas Classic as 16 teams were to square off for the 4 day event. The Wildcats took an early lead behind center Andre Norris's game high 17 but the game came down to free throws in the end with Central pulling out the win 59-57. Plainfield Curtiss Harrington scored 14 and Eric Deloach chipped in 10. For Argo Tamone Littlefield led the team with 16 and teammate Sam Boyd added 12.

In an early afternoon game, Lemont and Joliet Catholic squared off but it was the Indians defense that controlled the game in their 41-27 win over the Hillmen. Lemont's high powered offense was challenges by JCA and was kept to a season low but the Hillmen could not find an offensive weapon to ever challenge the Indian runs. Lemont's Juozas Balciunas led with a game high 9 points and teammate Matt Lipowski added 8. The Hillmen were led by Shakar Washington's team high 8 points in the loss.

In the final game, host Romeoville took the floor against Chicago Urban Prep and battled to a comfortable 67-41 win using a half court trap defense that forced the Lions into 26 turnovers in the route. The game was close 6 point margin at the half but the Spartans used a 12-4 run to open the third and created a big lead the Urban Prep could not overcome. Romeoville was led by Uchenna Akuba's 12 points 7 boards and Nate Washingtons 12 points while teammate Devin Purnell added 10. DAngelo Hooks led the Lions with 9 points. The tournament also saw Chicago Crane, Glenbard South, Chicago University Lab and Willowbrook advance to the winners bracket for round two.
