Plainfield Central hosted the Class 4A IHSA Regional tournament and finally got their chance to play in it Wednesday night against Thornwood but in the early going, the Wildcats were unable to take advantage of their home floor falling behind by as many as 12 to the visiting Thunderbirds but heroics were in the cards.

Plainfield trailed the entire game largely due to the sensational play of Thunderbird junior guard Darrell Combs who dropped a game high 30 on the Wildcats but Plainfield battled back and came within one, 51-50 with less than a minute to play. Combs was fouled and sent to the line but missed one of two holding a 52-50 lead.

Here is where it gets good for Wildcat fans…Plainfield junior center Andre Norris rebounds and puts back a missed three pointer for the tie with no time left forcing overtime. In overtime, the heroics would continue for both teams as neither was willing to go away quietly.

With the game tied at 61, Combs dribble/penetrated for a bucket and the lead as Thundebird fans went crazy with only 2.5 seconds left to play but that wouldn’t be the last word. After inbounding the ball across mid-court Plainfield called a timeout with 1.2 seconds left. After the timeout, the ball found its way to 5’8” sophomore guard Curtis Harrington who drained a three-pointer from the corner at the buzzer for the incredible 64-63 Wildcat win.

WOW
It doesn't matter how often you see a big play, they are always spell binding! Congrats to that young man. I envy him for his accomplishment and when it sinks in someday, I am glad that someone got it on tape for him. What a moment for Plainfield Central!
